Last month we asked "In general, how does your organization manage conflict?" Here's how you responded:
Tips for Starting Conflict Resolution Dialogue
Ask the Experts is your opportunity to ask questions and get real answers from product experts. This question comes following last month's Insider release of the whitepaper, "Making Conflict Management a Strategic Advantage" by Ken Thomas, Ph.D. The answer is provided by Dr. Thomas.
Q: Conflict can be a difficult subject to bring up. How do I start a conflict resolution dialogue?
A: Time your conversations appropriately by asking if it is a good time to talk. Be upfront, starting dialogue with phrases such as "what I'm most concerned about is __," or by asking individuals to share their concerns. Use language that invites others to problem-solve and avoids creating defensiveness. Try, for example, "we seem to be having a problem with ___. I'm hoping we can find a way to resolve this that works for both of us."
