Selecting Career Asessments
Selecting career assessments can be a balancing act between cost, administration qualifications, tool reliability and validity, and the needs of your students and employers. The CPP Education Team is pleased to offer a new article Selecting Career Assessments by Judith Grutter, M.S., NCC, MCC., to help you through some of the critical criteria for selecting career assessments. In addition, the article serves as a useful quick reference when it comes to the basics of test selection. Download the article >>

Allow us to formally introduce ourselves. We're Tilmin Hudson and Jim Larkin, your Education Signature Account Managers, also known as "E-SAMs". You may have communicated with us by phone or e-mail, or visited us at conferences and workshops. We are resident education experts here specifically to serve the needs of career and guidance counselors, and academic advisors. We are pleased to introduce this regular feature of CPP Career Insider — the E-SAM Corner. We welcome your questions and comments.
Last year we introduced our "Bad Careers, Not Here" poster to assist in your marketing efforts to students. Nearly 50 campus career centers nationwide have requested more than 240 posters. We solicited those career centers for photos of the poster displayed on their campus. Each respondent was entered in a drawing for lunch courtesy of CPP, Inc. Congratulations go out to our lucky winner — St. Mary's College in California. To see their winning photo, please click here.
Recently our colleague shared a letter she received from the Vice Provost of Undergrad Programs at the University of Southern California, where her son is a sophomore. It read, "although many sophomores have identified an academic path that captures their interest and attention, it is not unusual for them to question the choice of a major, or to remain undecided about academic goals." The letter is accompanied by a glossy, color "flyer" outlining the many resources available to USC undergrads, including the Career Planning and Placement Center. The letter closes with "I hope that knowing more about [these resources] can help make your son or daughter's sophomore year an exciting and rewarding one." Parents are a highly motivating source of input and encouragement to their children. If you aren't already doing so, consider promoting your services directly to students' parents. They may prove to be a great advertising source. If you have a tip for marketing your career center, write us at cpp_career_insider@cpp.com.
